What is the Pharmacy Technician Skills Assessment?

If you are starting the Pharmacy Technician program on August 16th 2021 or after, you are required to complete mandatory assessments as soon as possible. It is required that you complete them before the end of your MA1015 course, but it is best to complete them as soon as possible after they become available.

  • Step 1: Check your schedule and identify an hour of time that will be free of distractions, and that you can get online.
  • Step 2: Click on the Skills Assessment module in the MA1015P course
  • Step 3: Read the overview and when you are ready, click the link to go directly to the assessment
  • Step 4: Complete the math, writing, and reading assessments at your own pace.  The tests are not timed, and you can use a calculator on the math test.  Take your time and read the questions carefully.
  • Step 5: After completing all three assessments you will see a notification on your screen that you are complete.  Continue with your normal MA1015P coursework, and wait for communication from UMA for an appointment to discuss your results.

The results are important and will result in one of three outcomes for every student:

  • Outcome #1 – Your assessment scores are high enough that you can continue with your first two HS-PHT courses with no additional requirements
  • Outcome #2 – Your assessment scores show some gaps in your understanding of the skills that can be remediated with some required small-group learning sessions which you will be enrolled in.
  • Outcome #3 – Your assessment scores are below the level for success in the HS-PHT program.  This will result in a cancellation from the program.

If you have questions about the skills assessment before you take it, contact your advisor.  If you have questions after taking the skills assessment, please wait until we share your assessment results with you and we can answer your questions at that time.
